Vietnam Service Medal M0062. The Vietnam Service Medal (VSM) is a military award given to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who served in the Vietnam War. President Lyndon B. Johnson established the medal on July 8, 1965. On a Bronze medal, 1 inches in diameter, an oriental dragon behind a grove of bamboo trees above the inscription REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM SERVICE. On the reverse, a crossbow surmounted by a torch above the arched inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
